Who is it that struck you?Peter sitting at the courtyard and a maid ask him “were you not with him Jesus the Galilean”. “He denied and said I do not know what you mean”. When he came out of came out to porch another maid came and said to said to by standard this man was with Jesus of Nazareth. “Peter denied this again, this time with an oath. After a while the stander came up and said to Peter “certainly you are also one of them for your accent betrays you “Peter again denied and invoke a curse on himself and said “I do not know this man” immediately the cock crowed and Peter remembered that Jesus had said that before the cock crown to night, Peter would deny him to three times, so he went out and wept bitterly.
THE DIFFERENCE AND SIMILARITIES IN THE MISSION OF THE TWELVE AND SEVENTY DISCIPLES
The mission of the twelve apostles and the seventy disciples, both described in the Gospel, share similar elements but differ in scope, focus and the instructions given by Jesus. The following are some differences in the mission of the twelve and seventy disciples.
1. Number of disciples: Jesus sent twelve of his closet disciples but seventy disciples were sent out as a larger group
2. The mission of the twelve disciples was more limited and specifically instructed them to go only to “the lost sheep of the house of Israel: they were not to enter gentile or Samaritan towns. But the seventy disciples were sent to towns and places were Jesus himself was about to visit. So there mission was to prepare a wider audience for his coming.
3. The focus of the twelve disciples was to preach to message repentance, heal the sick, cleanse lepers, cast out demons and raise the dead advancing the ministry Jesus began. The seventy disciples focus was to proclaim that “the kingdom of God has come near” and healing the sick. There was less emphases an preforming miracles though they were still given power to do so.
4. The twelve disciples were told to reply on the hospitality of those visited but the seventy disciples were asked not to greet anyone on the on way as a result of the spread and ugency of the mission.
5. The twelve disciples symbolized the twelve tribes of Israel because Jesus initial mission was aimed at the renewal of Israel. But the seventy disciples symbolizes nations of the world because the mission of the seventy had a more universal spread of gospel of the gentiles.
6. The mission of the twelve is described as a significant early phase of Jesus ministry while that of the seventy was to established the casting out demos in Jesus name which was the expression of His message and preparation of the universal mission of the church
WEEK 8
JESUS BEFORE PILATE AND HEROD
After the trial of Jesus by Sanhedrin (high priest) Jesus was bound and arranged before Pilate. Pilate asked Jesus if he was the king of the Jews according to the allegations brought against him by the high priests, scribes and Pharisees Jesus you just replied that’s the Pilate said so. Pilate asked Jesus to defend himself in which of the allegations laid against him, but Jesus made no reply and this made Pilate to be surprise. That’s the feast of Passover celebration it was the customer to go to release a prisoner whom the people wanted. There was a notorious criminal called Barabbas when the people was asked by Pilate to choose between Jesus and Barabbas who should be freed and they all glamour Barnabas and crucified Jesus. So the wife of Pilate sent a message to her husband not to participate in the death of Jesus because she has suffered much over him in the dream. So he wanted to free him but the chief priests and the elders persuaded the people to opt for Barnabas and shout crucify him, crucify him. So Pilate took water and washed his hand publicly and said I’m innocent of this man’s blood cause I found no fault in him then he released Barabbas to the people and delivered Jesus to them to be crucified.
The trial of Jesus before Herod was only recorded in the gospel of Luke when Pilate learns that Jesus was a Galilean which was within Herod jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod who was in Jerusalem. When Herod saw Jesus he was glad because he had been desirous, to see him. Herod questioned Jesus at length but Jesus did not reply him however Herod and his soldiers treated Christ with contempt and mockery. They dressed him in a generous dress and sent him back to Pilate where he was delivered to the people they strip him and put a scarlet rope on him and a crown of thorns on his head and they mocked him spat on him and led him to be crucified.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TRIAL OF JESUS
1. despite the series of false accusations or allegations against Jesus and the fact that he was not guilty, He was crucified because it was the will of God that it should be so.
2. The messiah ship of Jesus could only be accomplished through his death and by this the scripture was fulfilled
3. Jesus went through the embarrassment and torture for the salvations of our soul. He endured all despite the fact that he did not commit any sin this is a lesson for Christian to know that the road to salvation is not easy but the glory at the end.
4. It has been destined that Jesus would die because Judas was living in sin, he was used to accomplish that ambitious task. Christians should therefore be steadfast
5. The priest and the Pharisees releasing the notorious robber Barabbas, to killing Jesus, was based on envy and hatred. This is also seen today in our society where authorities punish innocent people are pardoned criminals.
WAYS IN WHICH PEOPLE DENY JUSTICE IN THIS SOCIETY
As seen in the trial of Jesus he was denied justice due to envy and hatred by the council of the Sanhedrin made of the priests, scribes and elders. The way people are denied justice in our society is as follows
1. Hiring of false witnesses
2. Adjournment: delay of trials and judgment
3. Rigging of elections
4. Nepotism and tribalism
5. Failure to deliver judgment as at when dueď‚· Bribery, some Judges take bribes.

THE BURIAL OF JESUS MATTHEW 27:57-61
Joseph of Arimathea was a rich and respected member of the council of this Sanhedrin. He was a good and virtuous man secret disciple of Jesus he was aware that it was against Jewish custom to have a dead body on the cross overnight so he approached the pilot and requested for the body of Jesus for burial Pilate being assured of Jesus death, released the body and he wanted to bury Jesus because the next day was Sabbath. Joseph took the body of Christ and wrapped it in a clean line should and laid the body of Christ in his own tomb, where nobody had even been laid and closed the entrance of the tomb with a great rock and departed
SIGNIFICANCE OF JOSEPH’S ACTION IN THE BURIAL OF JESUS
1. Joseph of Arimathea was a true friend because he met his burial needs
2. He made-up for the friendship denied Jesus by his enemies
3. it would be sad to allow Jesus to be left hanging on the cross to the Sabbath day as if he were a common criminal
4. It would be sad to allow Jesus to be left hanging on the cross to the Sabbath day as if he were a common criminal it would be worse still if it was left to the Passover night when the patriarch lamb was being slayed
5. It would be worse still if it was left to the Passover night when the patriarch lamb was being slayed6. He could not allow Jesus’s body to be buried in a common burial place meant for criminals7. As a mark of his faith in Jesus he had to honor him by burying him in a new grave
SIGNIFICANCE OF JESUS DEATH AND THE LESSONS TO BE LEARNED
1. Jesus died on the cross to save mankind. The word he shared on the cross is for the atonement of our sins, He died that we might live; He was hi he was mocked that we might be glorified. All that Jesus went through on the cross of Calvary was for the benefit of mankind whom he came to save and this was prophesied by prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53:5) “But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, upon him was the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed”. The messiahship of Jesus Christ was accomplished on the cross of Calvary.
2. It is important to know that after the death of Jesus, he was glorified by his farther, but during his earthly ministry he was not glorified which is expressed in philippians 2811 and being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death even death in the cross therefore God highly exalted him and best tool on him the name which is above every name that’s the name that the mention of his name every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the father. The main lesson here is that salvation of Christians is based on strong belief in the sacrifice Jesus made for mankind Christian should also live a life worthy of gospel of Jesus and only with his salvation is assured3. Jesus Christ is presented as being submissive he allowed the persecutors to have their way so that the scripture will be fulfilled Thanks for reading
